'Click it or Ticket' campaign celebrates 20 years

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Monday, May 20th marks the 20th anniversary of North Carolina DOT “Click or Ticket” campaign.

According to the press release, North Carolina was the first state to launch this safety program in 1993.

The release also states, The Click it or Ticket campaign runs through Memorial Day weekend and ends on June 2nd.  During this time officers will cite driver’s state wide who do not buckle up.

Portion of Blue Clay Road to close as crews film scenes for 'Tammy'

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – According to a news release, a portion of Blue Clay Road will be closed to traffic on Tuesday, May 14 while crews film the a scene for the movie Tammy.

 Blue Clay Road will be closed is from Old Mill Road to Holly Road. 

The release alos states that crews from the production are notifying residents and businesses around the area. Notifications will be placed for drivers.

NHC Commissioners agree to give WAVE loan

WAVE Transit representatives say they are having a hard time paying their bills.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - WAVE Transit representatives say they are having a hard time paying their bills. Monday, New Hanover County Commissioners voted in favor of loaning the company money to hopefully keep the bus service running smoothly.

WAVE representatives said they have cash flow problems, the federal and state governments reimburse WAVE for most purchases, but the transit authority says they need the money to spend in the first place.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Lane Closures on I-40 and N.C. 133/ N.C.117 bridges

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - According to a press release from North Carolina DOT, Weather permitting, NC DOT crews will work on routine inspections on the I-40 and U.S. 117/N.C. 133 bridges over the Cape Fear River in New Hanover County on Monday, April 8 through Friday, April 12.

The inspections will require closures on the eastbound and westbound lanes on I-40 bridges and on the U.S. 177/N.C. 113 bridge between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day.

Drivers should plan for extra time crossing the bridges during that week and use caution in the area.

 Expect lane closures on M.L.K. Parkway Bridge near 23rd Street

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – According to a press release from the North Carolina DOT, bridge inspections will result in lane closures on  MLK Parkway/U.S. 74 bridge over Smith Creek and 23rd Street beginning Tuesday, April 2 through Friday, April 12.

 Inspections will only be done during the work week between 9:30 am to 3:30 p.m. Crews will only work on one lane at a time. Constrction will take place for the next two weeks.

Castle Hayne Road down to one lane Tuesday

Castle Hayne Road down to one lane Tuesday

CASTLE HAYNE, NC (WECT) - One lane heading south on Castle Hayne Road near U.S. 117 will be closed on Tuesday, April 2.

This closure is necessary so NC DOT crews can seal cracks along the road.

Construction is expected to be completed by 4pm Tuesday, April 2.
