Attention dancers: The Wilmington Hammerheads want you!

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Attention all dancers and cheerleaders: it's time to start stretching in preparation for the upcoming Hammerheads Dance Team auditions.  Being part of the team is a great way to stay in shape and give back to the community throughout the summer.

Tryouts for the 2012 Hammerheads Dance Team will be held Saturday, January 28 at the Wilmington School of Ballet in Wilmington.  That gives you just enough time to prepare yourself for a fun-filled season of dancing for a USL Pro soccer team.

Dancers should wear form fitting clothes with their hair pulled back.  Stage makeup is not needed, but dancers should look "performance-ready."

Laney pulled off one upset, can the Bucs do it again?

Laney pulled off one upset, can the Bucs do it again?

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Laney pulled off an upset during the first week of the NCHSAA football playoffs and they’ll have to do it again if the Buccaneers hopes to advance.

No. 1 Garner (12-0, 7-0 Greater Neuse River), who beat Athens Drive 42-0 last week, will host No. 5 Laney on Friday night.

Coach Greg Ditz’s Bucs are coming off of two wins, including a 30-27 victory against Wakefield during the first round. During the season, Laney (8-3, 2-3) averaged over 38 points per game and only allowed its opponents slightly over 18 points each week. The Bucs started the season strong with five consecutive wins, including three over with over 50 points. They fell down the Mideastern conference rankings after losses to Hoggard, New Hanover and New Bern.

Laney was elminated in the first round of the playoffs in 2010 by Wakefield, after a 31-14 loss.

No team stood a chance against Garner so far this year, though. The Trojans averaged 47.6 points per game and their defense allowed 15.5 each week. Last year, Garner was put out of the playoffs in the Sectional Round after losing 40-21 against Wake Forest-Rolesville.

The winner of Friday’s match will move on to the Sectional Round and will take on the winner of No. 3 Wake Forest-Rolesville at No. 2 Leesville Road.
