NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A man turned himself into authorities in New Hanover County Thursday on an old warrant relating to a strangulation case from 2011.

Sgt. Jerry Brewer with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office says Randy Prevedel surrendered at the front desk of the sheriff's office yesterday. Prevedel is charged with first degree attempted murder, assault by strangulation, second degree kidnapping and failure to appear, which is a misdemeanor.

Brewer says Prevedel is accused of strangling his ex wife in September 2011.  A month after the alleged incident, an FBI Task Force picked him up in Ohio and he was brought back to New Hanover County.

Since Prevedel arrived on a Friday, he first saw a magistrate instead of a judge. The magistrate only had access to the charges, but not the details of the alleged crime and set a $3500 bond for Prevedel.  He bonded out and did not return to court.

Thursday, Prevedel came to the sheriff's office and told the person up front that there were outstanding warrants for him.  Prevedel is now in jail on a $100,100 bond.
