SOUTHEASTERN NC (WECT) – With the forecast calling for a wintry mix later Friday, the North Carolina Department of Transportation has already sprayed salt brine on roads in the area and will continue to monitor the roads and weather forecasts.

Officials say our area won't see conditions as bad as other parts of the state, but they won't take chances when it comes to the safety of drivers.

They ask that you be careful if you see DOT crews out working.

"Give them room, give them space," said Gerard Taylor with the NCDOT. "Because remember, the roads may be icy, and they are just as likely to slip and slide as you, or you slip and slide into them."

The DOT workers in the area are ready to respond to other parts of the state if needed.
