WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Maxim Magazine is taking notice of a Wilmington business owner.
He was contacted by the magazine and asked to compete in the publication's Maximum Warrior Challenge, a tactical competition between Special Operations Forces of the different military branches.
In the competition, there are members of the Navy SEALS, Green Berets, Air Force Special Tactics Unit, Marine Corps Recon Unit, an Army Ranger and an Army Sniper.
Cowden, a former member of the Army Special Forces, was on the first team to hunt for Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan following the terrorist attacks on September 11th.
Cowden said it was an honor to be included in the competition.
"Representing the Army Special Forces, I definitely took that very seriously," he said. "There will be a lot of guys in the community, a lot of my friends, a lot of my peers, scrutinizing everything I do. Going against the other services, there is an inter-service rivalry; you definitely didn't want to let your service down."
He praised Maxim Magazine, which is well-read among members of the military, for its continued support of our nation's service members.
"Maxim is completely supportive of the troops," he said. "They are always doing troop tributes. You can get it at the commissaries. So, it was definitely an honor to get picked up and go compete in this competition."
The magazine has broadcast the first competition. It is running one video of one event per week on the web channel starting tomorrow. Cowden places third in the first challenge. To see the video, click here.
