WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Sheriff's deputies arrested a teenager Wednesday on charges of possession of a firearm by a minor and resisting, obstructing and delaying arrest, as well as breaking and entering and larceny charges.
According to officials, deputies responded to a report of gunfire near Bellwood Court, and spoke to two white males, Patrick Adam Donovan, 17, and Eric Lee Simmons, in a nearby wooded area who had been shooting handguns.
At this time, deputies noticed a black bag with unspecified suspicious items inside. When they questioned the young men, they did not provide legitimate explanations for possessing the guns or the items inside the bag.
The deputies proceeded to arrest Donovan, who was transported the New Hanover County Detention Facility. Simmons was issued a state citation for possession of a firearm by a minor and then released to his mother.
Later that evening, residents in the 2900 block of White Road notified deputies that they had returned home to find that their house had been broken into, and several of their items had been stolen.
Officials later confirmed that the items missing were a match with the items recovered from Donovan.
Subsequently, Donovan was charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, and two counts of larceny of a firearm.
Donavan's bond was posted at $15,000, which he later posted and was then released.
