NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Residents who live in New Hanover County will have the chance to drop off any household hazardous waste at the annual upcoming Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Day, according to a news release from a county spokesperson.
The event will take place in the Customs Building at Wilmington International Airport from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30.
Household hazardous waste that isn’t disposed of properly has the potential to pollute streams, rivers, drinking water and groundwater.
Residents can dispose of the following items at the event, along with confidential documents to be shredded:

Many items, including auto batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, appliances, SHARPS and tires (up to five per family) can also be brought to the county landfill year-round at no cost.
The landfill’s location is 5210 US Highway 421 North.
It’s open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. to noon.
