King's Grant area to switch water sources on Wednesday

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) — Approximately 2,000 Cape Fear Public Utility Authority customers in the King's Grant neighborhood will be getting water from a different place soon.

The customers indicated in pink in the above map are currently served by CFPUA's Nano-Filtration Water Treatment Plant in Ogden. According to a news release, on Aug. 17 they will be changed over to the Sweeney Water Treatment Plant.

The news release states:

Water provided by the Nano and Sweeney Plants are very similar; they are both fluoridated comparably, both are of equal and high quality, and both are very ‘soft’ water with Sweeney water a little softer than Nano. Customers who did not remove water softeners when the Nano facility came online and began producing and pumping ‘softer’ water into the system in 2009 may wish to consider eliminating their use of softeners after this August 17th switch. Otherwise customers in Kings Grant should experience no noticeable change in their water quality during or after the switchover other than improved water ‘softness’ and perhaps some brief / isolated periods of discoloration.
