NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The New Hanover County Fire Department raised the most money during the “fill the boot” fundraising event for the Muscular Dystrophy Association by any fire department in the state.
According to a press released from the deputy fire chief, New Hanover County Fire Rescue and the New Hanover County Professional Firefighters Association raised $51,278 during the campaign, thanks to residents.
"The support of our community was overwhelming," said Lieutenant Ben Bobzien, who coordinated the department's three-day campaign. "The commitment of our firefighters and the generosity of our community allowed us to exceed our goal and receive this honor - but most importantly helping the MDA."
According to a press release, MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research.
