NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A Laney High School senior recently won $5,000 for his school after winning a contest.
Ryan Piper entered a video contest put on by the he North Carolina School Board Association, called “What’s Super About Public Schools?”
Piper was presented with the project by a teacher, Mr. Halstead, just two days before it was due. Despite the time crunch, Piper decided to jump on board on behalf of his school, and created a video highlighting diversity, career development, the arts and more that public schools offer.
At the annual NCSBA meeting, held earlier this week in Greensboro, it was announced that Laney High School’s video submission had come in first place. As a result, the school won $5,000.
Piper says his school plans on using the money for digital media classes.
“We are so happy and proud to support our school in such a good way,” he said.
